How did it happen that scientists, scientific documents, and their bibliographic links came to be regarded as mathematical variables in abstract models of scientific communication? What is the role of quantitative analyses of scientific and technical documentation in current science policy and management? Bibliometrics and Citation Analysis: From the Science Citation Index to Cybermetrics answers these questions through a comprehensive overview of theories, techniques, concepts, and applications in the interdisciplinary and steadily growing field of bibliometrics.
Since citation indexes came into the limelight during the mid-1960s, citation networks have become increasingly important for many different research fields. The book begins by investigating the empirical, philosophical, and mathematical foundations of bibliometrics, including its beginnings with the Science Citation Index, the theoretical framework behind it, and its mathematical underpinnings. It then examines the application of bibliometrics and citation analysis in the sciences and science studies, especially the sociology of science and science policy. Finally it provides a view of the future of bibliometrics, exploring in detail the ongoing extension of bibliometric methods to the structure and dynamics of the World Wide Web.
This book gives newcomers to the field of bibliometrics an accessible entry point to an entire research tradition otherwise scattered through a vast amount of journal literature. At the same time, it brings to the forefront the cross-disciplinary linkages between the various fields (sociology, philosophy, mathematics, politics) that intersect at the crossroads of citation analysis. Because of its discursive and interdisciplinary approach, the book is useful to those in every area of scholarship involved in the quantitative analysis of information exchanges, but also to science historians and general readers who simply wish to familiarize themselves with an important, albeit increasingly complex area of information science.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nicola De Bellis is a medical librarian at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://uploadingit.com/d/KT3QKITJITNLDOMW
http://www.ebookee.com.cn/Bibliometrics-and-Citation-Analysis-From-the-Science-Citation-Index-to-Cybermetrics_347642.html
http://uploading.com/files/2mc4f735/0810867133.rar/
http://depositfiles.com/files/mrwi61fdk
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZU75GYQV
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Handbook of Cognitive Science: An Embodied Approach

Tipo de publicación (Type of publication): Libro (Book)
Autor (Author): Calvo, Paco & Gomila, Toni
Título traducido (Translated Title): N.E (N.S)

Descripción (Description):
From Elsevier:
Edited By
Paco Calvo, Universidad de Murcia, Murcia, Spain
Toni Gomila, Universitat Illes Balears, Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Included in series
Perspectives on Cognitive Science,
Description
The Handbook of Cognitive Science provides an overview of recent developments in cognition research, relying upon non-classical approaches. Cognition is explained as the continuous interplay between brain, body, and environment, without relying on classical notions of computations and representation to explain cognition. The handbook serves as a valuable companion for readers interested in foundational aspects of cognitive science, and neuroscience and the philosophy of mind. The handbook begins with an introduction to embodied cognitive science, and then breaks up the chapters into separate sections on conceptual issues, formal approaches, embodiment in perception and action, embodiment from an artificial perspective, embodied meaning, and emotion and consciousness. Contributors to the book represent research overviews from around the globe including the US, UK, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
Audience
Professionals, researchers, and advanced students in cognitive science, psychology, and philosophy.
Bibliographic details
Hardbound, 498 pages, publication date: AUG-2008
ISBN-13: 978-0-08-046616-3
ISBN-10: 0-08-046616-8
Imprint: ELSEVIER
Price:
USD 150
EUR 106.95
GBP 90.99
Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://uploadingit.com/d/WTJNYLPY6QVUFDOL
http://www.ebookee.com.cn/Handbook-of-Cognitive-Science-An-Embodied-Approach_211306.html
http://uploading.com/files/QCGNINGE/0080466168.zip.html
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Statistical and Methodological Myths and Urban Legends. Some examples of these "methodological urban legends", as we refer to them in this book, are characterized by manuscript critiques such as: (a) "your self-report measures suffer from common method bias"; (b) "your item-to-subject ratios are too low"; (c) "you can’t generalize these findings to the real world"; or (d) "your effect sizes are too low".
Historically, there is a kernel of truth to most of these legends, but in many cases that truth has been long forgotten, ignored or embellished beyond recognition. This book examines several such legends. Each chapter is organized to address: (a) what the legend is that "we (almost) all know to be true"; (b) what the "kernel of truth" is to each legend; (c) what the myths are that have developed around this kernel of truth; and (d) what the state of the practice should be. This book meets an important need for the accumulation and integration of these methodological and statistical practices.
Bio
Charles E. This is perhaps the leading division within the psychological study of politics today. This text provides a concise, readable, and conceptually-organized introduction to the topic of political psychology by examining this very question.
Using this situationism-dispositionism framework—which roughly parallels the concerns of social and cognitive psychology—this book focuses on such key explanatory mechanisms as behaviorism, obedience, personality, groupthink, cognition, affect, emotion, and neuroscience to explore topics ranging from voting behavior and racism to terrorism and international relations.
Houghton's clear and engaging examples directly challenge students to place themselves in both real and hypothetical situations which involve intense moral and political dilemmas. This highly readable text will provide students with the conceptual foundation they need to make sense of the rapidly changing and increasingly important field of political psychology.
Bio
David Patrick Houghton is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Florida.
Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://ifile.it/x1tyg6p/city.rar
http://uploadingit.com/d/VLC4TVCCXKHDGN9W
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://freesci.blogspot.com/2009/11/political-psychology-situations.html' title='Political Psychology. This approach includes many more examples, allowing students to develop more sophisticated intuition and enabling them to learn how to write precise proofs in a brand-new context, which is an invaluable experience for math majors.
Along with the standard point-set topology topics—connected and path-connected spaces, compact spaces, separation axioms, and metric spaces—Topology covers the construction of spaces from other spaces, including products and quotient spaces. This innovative text culminates with topics from geometric and algebraic topology (the Classification Theorem for Surfaces and the fundamental group), which provide instructors with the opportunity to choose which "capstone" best suits his or her students.
Topology: Point-Set and Geometric features:

A short introduction in each chapter designed to motivate the ideas and place them into an appropriate context

Sections with exercise sets ranging in difficulty from easy to fairly challenging

Exercises that are very creative in their approaches and work well in a classroom setting

A supplemental Web site that contains complete and colorful illustrations of certain objects, several learning modules illustrating complicated topics, and animations of particularly complex proofs

Autor information
PAUL L. SHICK, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned a PhD in Mathematics from Northwestern University in 1984, working in the area of stable homotopy theory. He remains active in research in algebraic topology.

Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://www.avaxhome.ws/ebooks/science_books/math/TopologyPointSet.html
http://depositfiles.com/files/q8arugnq9
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6RT06W3I
http://uploading.com/files/2fcmfaa9/TopologyPointSet.rar/
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Sórdidos & The core concerns of social psychology include the impact of one individual on another; the impact of a group on its individual members; the impact of individuals on the groups in which they participate; the impact of one group on another. This book is a successor to Social Psychology: Social Perspectives and Sociological Perspectives in Social Psychology. The current text expands on previous handbooks in social psychology by including recent developments in theory and research and comprehensive coverage of significant theoretical perspectives.
Written for: Researchers, scientists
Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://www.ebookee.com.cn/Handbook-of-Social-Psychology-Handbooks-of-Sociology-and-Social-Research-_50087.html
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZY2IPQSB
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://uploadingit.com/d/TNVUYETM4J2YTZEV
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://freesci.blogspot.com/2009/11/lhermeneutique-du-sujet-cours-au.html' title='L'hermeneutique du sujet. On the one hand, the surging demand of the past three or four decades, driven by a belief in higher education as a principal engine of social and economic advancement, has led to dramatic growth of the higher education systems in these countries. On the other hand, this growth in demand was accompanied by rapidly increasing per-student cost pressures at a time when governments seemed increasingly unable to keep pace with these cost pressures through public revenues. Hence, worldwide, the most common approach to the need for increasing revenue was to use some form or forms of cost sharing, or the shift of some of the higher educational per-student costs from governments and taxpayers to parents and students. This raises several important challenges to higher education systems. First, there is the political and social controversy associated with most forms of cost-sharing, particularly with tuition fees. Secondly, there are important issues in terms of the broad context of social policy, such as the role of families and students and the relationship that the state establishes with each of them. Third, there is the comparison of alternative instruments of cost-sharing and the direct and indirect effects of each of them, notably in terms of educational equality. Overall, underlying cost-sharing debates are fundamental questions about social choice, individual opportunities, and the role of government in society.
Written for: Researchers and policy makers in higher education, economists and public policy researchers interested in issues of efficiency and equity in higher education
Palabras Clave (Keywords): access, cost-sharing, equity, funding, higher education
Fuentes (Sources):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PYBSZY1I
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Indigenous and Cultural Psychology

Tipo de publicación (Type of publication): Libro (Book)
Autor (Author): Kim, Uichol; Yang, Kuo-Shu; Hwang, Kwang-Kuo (Eds.)
Título traducido (Translated Title): N.E (N.S)

Descripción (Description):
From Springer:
Serie del libros: International and Cultural Psychology Series
ISSN: 1574-0455
Materia: Psychology, Cross Cultural Psychology and Clinical Psychology
Editor: Springer US
DOI: 10.1007/0-387-28662-4
Copyright: 2006
ISBN: 978-0-387-28661-7 (Print) 978-0-387-28662-4 (Online)
Subject Collection: Ciencia del comportamiento
About this book
It was once assumed that the bedrock concepts of psychology held true for all the world’s peoples. More recently, post-modern approaches to research have expanded on these Western models, building a psychology that takes into account the sociopolitical, historical, religious, ecological, and other indigenous factors that make every culture, as well as every person as agents of their own actions.
Indigenous and Cultural Psychology surveys psychological and behavioral phenomena in native context in various developing and developed countries, with particular focus on Asia. An international team of 28 experts clarifies culture-specific concepts (such as paternalism and the Japanese concept of amae), models integrative methods of study, and dispels typical misconceptions about the field and its goals. The results reflect culturally sound frames of reference while remaining rigorous, systematic, and verifiable. These approaches provide a basis for the discovery of true psychological universals.
Among the topics featured:
- Scientific and philosophical bases of indigenous psychology
- Comparisons of indigenous, cultural, and cross-cultural psychologies
- Socialization, parent-child relationship, and family
- The private and public self: concepts from East Asia, Europe, and the Americas
- Interpersonal relationships: concepts from East Asia, Europe,, and the U.S.
- Factors promoting educational achievement and organizational effectiveness in Asia
- The growth and indigenization of psychology in developing and developed countries
- Are any values, attitudes, beliefs and traits universal? Cross-national comparisons
- The potential for indigenous psychology to lead to a global psychology
With this book, the editors have captured a growing field at a crucial stage in its evolution. Indigenous and Cultural Psychology benefits students and researchers on two levels, offering groundbreaking findings on understudied concepts, and signaling future directions in universal knowledge.
Written for: Cross-cultural psychologists, community psychologists
Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5SUYZBXU
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

Contemporary Qualitative Research

Tipo de publicación (Type of publication): Libro (Book)
Autor (Author): Taylor, Peter Charles & Wallace, John
Título traducido (Translated Title): N.E (N.S)

Descripción (Description):
From Springer:
Serie del libros: Science & Technology Education Library
ISSN: 1572-5987
Volumen: Volume 33
Materia: Education and Science Education
Editor: Springer Netherlands
DOI: 10.1007/978-1-4020-5920-9
Copyright: 2007
ISBN: 978-1-4020-5919-3 (Print) 978-1-4020-5920-9 (Online)
Subject: Collection: Humanidades, Derecho y Ciencias Sociales
About this book:
This volume offers a unique set of research exemplars for science, mathematics and technology educators.

Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://uploadingit.com/d/77L6KTBOLG9JML50
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

http://www.esnips.com/doc/7694d800-2d33-4e9a-9fb4-3ad389573653/Las-Palabras-Y-Las-Cosas
Traducción al español de Elsa Cecilia Frost, (1968) Siglo XXI Editores (Spanish translation from Elsa Cecilia Frost, (1968) Siglo XXI Editores)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://freesci.blogspot.com/2009/11/les-mots-et-les-choses-une-archeologie.html' title='Les mots et les choses. Out of the widely diverse national higher education systems and sub-systems a common European Higher Education Area is being created. This process, driven by the great ideas of establishing federal Europe, is full of tensions and conflicts often ignored in the official discourse. Expanding the project well beyond the borders of the European Union created the difficulty that relatively prosperous and high quality universities in the Western part find themselves side-by-side with much poorer universities of sometimes questionable quality in other parts of the continent. The Bologna Process does not seem to have the tools available to deal with this. This has led to the rise of many controversial issues, as some of the sponsors of the Process, particularly the European Commission, see international competitiveness of European universities as its most significant goal. The Process is being perceived as following the logic of re-design of European knowledge products for the purposes of the world markets and certain elements of the production process. University communities - academic staff and students - however, sometimes feel that such an approach may not only carry the threat of compromising their vital interests but also call for the revision of the principles of academic autonomy as understood in Europe since the early 19th century.

This volume brings together a group of higher education researchers across Europe and looks into the implementation of the Bologna Process in the countries often attributed a peripheral status. Although it is also obvious that if the Process has a center, it stands external to higher education systems and universities it concerns. One can possibly find it either in Brussels or across the Atlantic in the United States, internationally perceived as the main competitor to European higher education. In addition to cultural and political issues the European higher education project faces in various countries, the volume pays particular attention to the role of students as well as the changing position of the intellectuals under its impact.

Written for:
Researchers, teaching faculty and students of higher education policy, comparative education and European integration; policy makers and NGO representatives involved in promoting the European Higher Education Area and European integration

Palabras Clave (Keywords): No aplica para este tipo de publicación (Don't apply for this type of publication)
Fuentes (Sources):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=29FSNABR
Texto completo de la versión original (Complete text from the original version)

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Maree J. In the current study, 195 people with social phobia were randomly allocated to 1 of 3 treatments: standard cognitive restructuring plus in vivo exposure, an “enhanced” treatment that augmented the standard program with several additional treatment techniques (e.g., performance feedback, attention retraining), and a nonspecific (stress management) treatment. The enhanced treatment demonstrated significantly greater effects on diagnoses, diagnostic severity, and anxiety during a speech. The specific treatments failed to differ significantly on self-report measures of social anxiety symptoms and life interference, although they were both significantly better than the nonspecific treatment. The enhanced treatment also showed significantly greater effects than standard treatment on 2 putative process measures: cost of negative evaluation and negative views of one's skills and appearance. Attention training comprised a probe detection task in which pictures of faces with either a threatening or neutral emotional expression cued different locations on the computer screen. In the attention modification program (AMP), participants responded to a probe that always followed neutral faces when paired with a threatening face, thereby directing attention away from threat. In the attention control condition (ACC), the probe appeared with equal frequency in the position of the threatening and neutral faces. Results revealed that the AMP facilitated attention disengagement from threat from pre- to postassessment and reduced clinician- and self-reported symptoms of social anxiety relative to the ACC. The percentage of participants no longer meeting Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (4th ed.) criteria for GSP at postassessment was 50% in the AMP and 14% in the ACC. Symptom reduction in the AMP group was maintained during 4-month follow-up assessment. These results suggest that computerized attention training procedures may be beneficial for treating social phobia. In their place, an emphasis is placed on the communal construction of knowledge, objectivity as a relational achievement, and language as a pragmatic medium through which local truths are constituted. Although these developments in understanding may seem opposed to psychological science, they are not. Rather, they invite a new range of questions about the potentials of traditional research. These questions are vitally concerned with the significance of such inquiry in cultural life. More importantly, this emerging view of psychological science opens new and exciting vistas of theoretical, methodological, and practical significance. Increasing manifestations of movement in these directions suggest the possibility of profound change in the profession. This deficit may be traced primarily to the commitment of the field to traditional positivist assumptions that (a) give preeminent weight to "the fact," (b) demand verification of theoretical ideas, (c) encourage disregard for the temporal dependency of social pattern, and (d) recommend dispassionate comportment in scientific affairs. Shortcomings are demonstrated in each of these cases, and the groundwork is laid for developing generative theory, liberated both from the press of immediate fact and the necessity for verification. Such theory may properly function to sustain value commitments and to restructure the character of social life. The text is taken from the American edition published by D. Appleton & Co. in 1870. Galton proposes that mental ability is distributed in the manner which is characteristic of physical traits. The range of mental power between--I will not say the highest Caucasian and the lowest savage--but between the greatest and least of English intellects, is enormous. There is a continuity of natural ability reaching from one knows not what height, and descending to one can hardly say what depth. I propose in this chapter to range men according to their natural abilities, putting them into classes separated by equal degrees of merit, and to show the relative number of individuals included in the several classes. Perhaps some persons might be inclined to make an offhand guess that the number of men included in the several classes would be pretty equal. If he thinks so, I can assure him he is most egregiously mistaken. The method I shall employ for discovering all this, is an application of the very curious theoretical law of "deviation from an average." First, I will explain the law, and then I will show that the production of natural intellectual gifts comes justly within its scope.
